TATA's Assam Semiconductor Plant needs these raw material suppliers

As India accelerates its ambitions to become a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication plant in Assam is seeking vendors to supply a wide range of essential raw materials for the production of semiconductor devices. This initiative is part of a larger vision to build a complete and self-sustaining ecosystem for semiconductor manufacturing in the region.

Building an Ecosystem of Cutting-Edge Technology! In Jagiroad, alongside the upcoming TSAT (Tech Semiconductor Assembly & Testing) facility, the Assam Semiconductor Plant is working on developing a Semiconductor Manufacturing Cluster to create a complete ecosystem. This cluster will integrate various stages of the semiconductor production process, from raw material sourcing and fabrication to assembly, testing, and packaging.

The initiative is also supported by Tata Group, one of India’s largest and most respected conglomerates, which is playing a key role in the development of the semiconductor industry in Assam. The collaborative effort aims to build a sustainable semiconductor ecosystem that can serve both domestic and global markets. The project aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) vision, which is championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is a central component of the Semiconductor Mission launched by the Indian government to reduce dependence on foreign imports and establish a robust domestic manufacturing base.

Over 61 Raw Materials and 150 Potential Suppliers Targeted

As part of the ongoing development, the Assam Semiconductor Plant is seeking to establish strong relationships with over 150 potential suppliers who can provide more than 61 critical raw materials. These materials are necessary for the fabrication of semiconductor chips, and the plant is looking for vendors who can meet the rigorous quality standards required for high-precision production.

The raw materials required for semiconductor manufacturing include:

  1. Silicon Wafers High-purity semiconductor-grade silicon wafers, which form the foundation for chip fabrication.

  2. Photoresists Materials for photolithography processes used to create intricate patterns on wafers.

  3. Specialty Gases Gases such as silane (SiH₄), nitrogen (N₂), oxygen (O₂), and argon (Ar) are crucial for deposition, etching, and cleaning.

  4. High-Purity Metals Copper, aluminum, tungsten, and cobalt are used for interconnections and wiring in chips.

  5. Dopants Materials such as boron (B), phosphorus (P), and arsenic (As) to modify the electrical properties of silicon.

  6. Chemicals for Etching and Cleaning Acids and chemicals like hydrochloric acid (HCl), sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄), and acetone for wafer cleaning and etching.

  7. Dielectrics and Insulating Materials Silicon dioxide (SiO₂), silicon nitride (Si₃N₄), and low-k dielectrics for insulating layers.

  8. Packaging Materials Materials such as lead frames, Ball Grid Arrays (BGA), and thermal interface materials (TIM) for final packaging.
